This short-lived perennial can really take the heat and blooms effortlessly all summer.
A native of South America, tall verbena puts forth tall, airy stems topper with clusters of violet-purple blooms from early summer into fall. These are very attractive to butterflies and bees, and the removal of older flower stems will encourage continued flowering.
Enjoy this pretty summer flower in butterfly gardens and sunny summer borders.
Full sun and well drained, average soil will make this carefree plant happy. One caveat to planting tall verbena is its tendency to readily seed itself, so care must be taken to remove flowerheads before their seeds mature.
