One of the best small deciduous trees for year-round display, this native of Northeast Asia is prized for its polished, flaking, golden-brown bark, its compact upright habit, and its clustered white early-spring flowers. The toothed, oval, medium-green leaves turn yellow in fall. Small black cherry-like fruits are sometimes produced in summer.
This hardy and adaptable tree does best in full sun and well-drained soil. It fares poorly in areas with mild winters. Like many ornamental cherries, it is relatively short lived. Plant it where it will be seen and appreciated at all seasons, such as near a walkway, entry, or kitchen window. (Info Source: Learn2Grow.com)
