Hardy and water-loving, common rush in an evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial that is native to many regions throughout the world. It naturally inhabits calm, shallow waterways and ditches and tolerates both fresh and salt water. Its clump-forming habit makes it amenable to water gardens and containers.
Common rush forms clumps of stiff, upright clumps of cylindrical, grassy foliage of medium green. The lustrous blades produces small tufted brown flowers from summer to autumn. These are inconspicuous and offer little interest. In areas with cold winters, the foliage may turn shades of greenish brown.
This rush grows best in sites with full to partial sun and waterlogged, acidic to neutral soil. Any shallow waterside will do. It suffers from few pests or diseases and will tolerate sites with average soil moisture, but not dry. As a landscape specimen, it is a superb water garden plant. It is also ideal for wet, naturalistic gardens. (info source: Learn2grow.com)

Useful Info
GerminationUse a moist seed starting mix and sow the rush grass seed on top of the soil, lightly covering it.
The soil and ornamental grass seeds need to maintain consistent wetness. Grow the seeds in a bright, sunny window until the rush plants are 4 inches (~10 mm) in height.
Harden the seedlings off and transplant outdoors into a permanent location.
An application of diluted liquid fertilizer to half strength is recommended at the time of transplanting and monthly throughout the growing season.
