A well known, very long lasting cut flower that is also nice in groups.
It is used to maintain good soil conditions and as ingredient of homeopathic drugs, teas.
Calendulas are wonderfully easy to grow in the border or containers.
Try to plant in a location that enjoys full sun and remember to water moderately. Neon is generally regarded as a tender plant, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside.
It needs a loamy soil with a ph of 6.1 to 7.8 (weakly acidic soil to weakly alkaline soil).
Keep picking or deadhead to ensure flowers until the first frosts. For stronger plants sow in autumn and over winter. Can be grown in container pots.

Germination | Sow inside in pots from February to March or outside April to May. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 12mm deep, in rows 30cm apart. Germination - 7-21 days. For spring/summer flowering pot plants: Sow in a cool greenhouse or conservatory in late summer/early autumn. Grow on cool in full light and water sparingly. Sow 5 mm deep with a guideline distance of 20 cm. For optimal germination, soil temperature should be a minimum of +10C. It is tender, so ensure you wait until all danger of frost has passed in your area before considering planting outside. (info: www.myfolia.com) |
